Possums left in charity bin in animal cruelty case

16/10/2008 6:41:00 AM.  | AAP
The RSPCA says it will thoroughly investigate a case of cruelty involving a possum and her joey being strapped into a cardboard box and left in a charity bin west of Brisbane.

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty says the severely stressed and dehydrated animals were found in a St Vincent De Paul donations bin in Sumner Park on Monday.

It's thought the animals had been in the bin for two days.

Mr Beatty says the case is incredibly callous and follows a string of other cruel acts against native animals around Brisbane.

The RSPCA hopes the mother and joey can be released back in the wild in the next few days.

Humans are supposed to be the pinnacle of evolution, the top of the food chain, the dominant and most successful species! When we hear of the "animals" (sub-humans) who inflict gratutituous pain and suffering on other species and their own, it really shows that we have a long way to go! The Christian concept that we are God's favourite species, in "His Own Image" really needs to be questioned!

the rspca, or wires, would have taken these animals. why oh why do people go to all the trouble of putting these poor animals in a box &the dispose of them in such a manner. do they not have a brain? do they not realise this is animal cruelty? have they ever been in a charity bin? with no food or water & been in a box unable to get out? how long did they think it would be before someone would come & clear it out? what if someone decided to set that one alight? think would you do this to a baby
