Eric Bana to be in child abuse campaign

16/11/2008 1:23:00 PM.  | AAP
Eric Bana will be included within an Australian Childhood Foundation advertising campaign against child abuse.

The Australian actor will be in a radio commercial which depicts child abuse situations.

"The campaign is a great example of how important it is for everyone to have a deeper understanding of the problem of child abuse and then know what to do to prevent it," Bana said.

The Australian Childhood Foundation television commercials go to air on Sunday and use "real life" scenarios based on a violent father, a neglectful mother and a sex abuser.

Foundation chief executive Dr Joe Tucci said too many Australians wanted to think child abuse happened elsewhere, not in their own neighbourhoods or communities.

"It's time for the community to face up to the issue of child abuse and neglect and act to prevent the problem before it starts."

The foundation says more than 300,000 cases of child abuse and neglect were reported to authorities last year.

I wonder how much he's getting paid for this bullsh*t.Professional actors should not be involved in something as serious as this.Get rid of the mismanagement in the govt dept first (the Australian Childhood Foundation - another taxpayer funded charitable organisation so what have they achieved?). This is like having Noeline Brown as an ambassdor for the aged.WTF has she done for any of them not to mention she doesn't even reply to her emails.I bet she's paid a pretty penny for doing sweet FA..

My thoughts exactly fck all. what is the government doing spending money on an ad campaign when they do not have a department that can do the job. so many children are being abused these days. we hear of at least one or two a day just on livenews. DoCs knows about these children most of the time. yet they leave them with the abusive parents. this depart. and the government needs to be held accountable. maybe the ad campaign should be drected at them
