Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has granted one lucky turkey its freedom in a traditional Thanksgiving ceremony, while cameras captured the gory slaughter of another bird in the background.
Governor Palin was giving a light-hearted interview on her experiences during the presidential campaign after officially pardoning a turkey for Thanksgiving at a farm in Wasilla, Alaska.
However, the backdrop was a little more brutal.
News cameras captured a worker at Triple D farms feeding a turkey into a grinder just metres behind Palin.
The Governor was aware of the background scenery but was not phased and allowed the interview to go ahead.
"This was neat,'' she said of the outing.
"I was happy to get to be invited to participate in this.
"You need a little bit of levity in this job ... certainly we'll probably invite criticism for even doing this too, but at least this was fun".
