Caseworkers from the Department of Community Services claim more children will slip through the cracks after a report into child protection called for a change to “mandatory reporting”.
The Special Commission of Inquiry has made more than 100 recommendations, calling for only those children deemed to be at “significant risk” to be reported to DOCS.
But Steve Turner from the Public Service Association said it doesn't make sense to outsource the remainder of complaints to other agencies.
“This report does nothing to increase the resources available for children at risk,” Mr Turner said.
“It’s about outsourcing those children and the services they need to no-one.
“What they are proposing is to decentralize the services available for children at risk for agencies in the community that don’t currently exist.
“We believe this will lead to more children falling through the cracks.”
