A Victorian P-plate driver has been caught by police with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit, doing burnouts in the middle of an intersection.
The 20-year-old was seen by police at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Fitzgerald Rd in Hallam at 6.25am today.
The Endeavour Hills man recorded a blood-alcohol level of .187 per cent, the Herald Sun reported.
That reading is almost four times the .05 limit for drivers with a full licence.
P-plate drivers must not have any alcohol in their system.
The driver's license was immediately suspended and his car was impounded after the incident, while police are expected to charge him with drink-driving, dangerous driving and improper use of a vehicle.
"This was an extremely disappointing and dangerous display of behaviour – especially given that the driver was a P-Plater," Police Sergeant Pat McGavigan told the Herald Sun.
"He will now be facing serious penalties in addition to losing his licence and having his car impounded and should count himself incredibly lucky that he hasn’t killed or seriously injured himself or anyone else."
