Banning bad buskers and brushing aside bogans is at the top of the agenda for Melbourne's new Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle, as he moves to clean up the streets.
In a bid to make Melbourne more family friendly, Mr Doyle said this morning that he's "sick of really badly talented buskers," and hopes that new rules will make the city more pleasant.
"They actually need to be properly licenced and regulated so that we are not just assaulted with a whole lot of different sounds every 10 metres along the footpath," Mr Doyle told 3AW.
Not wanting the city "to become a bogan magnet," Mr Doyle is speaking with nightclub owners for ways they can deal with alcohol fuelled violence.
He said he's also aiming for a heavier police presence, offering the use of a council-owned building on Bourke St for a police station.
"I actually want families to feel comfortable coming in to the city, bringing their kids and having family time," he said.
Mr Doyle is also looking at ways to ease traffic in the city, and has pledged to create cheaper parking on the city fringe.
