Catholic school teachers walk off the job

2/12/2008 9:19:00 AM.  | Kelly Fedor
Catholic school teachers across New South Wales have just walked off the job in protest at a 2.5 percent State Government pay offer.

The teachers will discuss their next course of action during the 1 hour meeting, as they fight for a five per cent increase.

Dick Shearman from the Independent Education Union says the State Government must do something now, or risk more industrial action.

“You would hope it would be resolved,” he told LIVENEWS.com.au.

“But if nothing is done than this will [just] be the first day.”

Teachers, particularly in NSW, seem to down tools a lot, always over pay. Granted they have one of the worst jobs about (after medical practitioners) but ... it was their choice and their unhappiness would probably be better resolved by a career-change than more pay which is probably used for more expensive anti-depressants.
