The NSW Premier has been kept in the dark about changes to the E-tag system, as decisions are made without him being informed.

A no deposit tag has been announced by NSW Roads Minister Michael Daley, but the Premier knew nothing about it when asked earlier this morning.

Mr Daley has admitted to 2GB’s Ray Hadley they hadn't discussed it.

In a fiery interview Hadley demanded the minister concede he had not kept Nathan Rees in the loop.

“Now tell the truth, Michael Daley, did you talk to the Premier about this issue and have you had your knuckles rapped this morning for not going to talk to him?” the announcer asked.

“No and no,” Daley responded.

Even the NSW Roads Minister is encouraging drivers to look interstate if they want an E-tag with no extra fees.

NSW E-tag providers are refusing to drop their forty dollar deposit, but the RTA is introducing a tag with no deposit.

It will have administration fees.

NSW Roads Minister Michael Daley says he's not worried if drivers look to other states to get E-tags.

“I think it’s important that people find the best deal for themselves as possible,” he told LIVENEWS.com.au.

“It’s therefore up to the government and the RTA to make sure flexibility is there for people.”

My proposal, Minister Daley, is that vehicles with non-NSW number plates be permitted to travel toll free in Sydney because they are infrequent users of the Sydney road system and it's such a hassle getting E tags. So when I whizz along a toll road with no tag and get zapped, the owner of the road should bill the NSW Government.

“I think it’s important that people find the best deal for themselves as possible,” - that is just typical of the current NSW Labor Government. Telling people to look after themselves by possibly going to another state to find a better deal on E-Tags. Can we please do the same with our Rego, CTP, stamp duty and other fees that we are ripped off with every day Mr Daley?

but paul i onlly go to sydney once in a blue moon, i shouldn't have to get an etay either. i think we should all be able to go to qld or the nt like the truckies do for our rego. everything is cheaper there. also why would any of ree's minsters tell him anything none of them like him or any of the decisions he makes, and half of them are scared they will be sacked if they cough the wrong way

Exactly. A clear case of a Premier that has no knowledge - or should I say no idea - of what's going on in this state.

He's been in office only a matter of months, and already Nathan Rees is being kept in the dark by some of his ministers. This government has had the smell of death about it for a long time now, and even the baton changing from Carr to Iemma to Rees has failed to stop that. You get the distinct feeling that Nathan Rees is at best a stopgap premier until the real powers that be in the Labor Party decide who might have a chance of leading them to victory in the next election in March 2011.

The smell of death hangs over the entire govt. like a shroud and none of them will escape it. It matters not who they make Premier between now and the next election. Bye bye Nathan will be replaced by his replacement just as was Bye bye Morris

As a JWH Party member, Belinda, you have considerable political clout. You can advise the NSW Premier of this fact (JWH Party membership), put your proposal to him and advise that his response will be posted on LiveNews for the whole world to see! Sister you are one helluva powerful gal who is not to be messed with!

It has always been my understanding that Federal law on the Australian currency ($) is that one must always be able, as an option, to pay cash using $ notes and coin at point of sale or service. That means that since the toll roads & tunnels don't provide the cash option then they are in breach of Federal law. Maybe a Constitutional Lawyer can advise on this.

LOL !!!! With Michael Daley as a minister for roads in the NSW Labor Government who needs an opposition. Speaking of the opposition, where the hell are they ? They might as well not exist ! Hopeless the lot of them, liberal and labor ! I thought that once all the states were labor it would be smooth sailing as all the laborites look after each other ! WRONG ! It's just a comedy of errors ! In the last state election I did not vote for labor or liberal. Who will put their hand up as voting labor

With the Labor govt. destroying itself all the Opposition has to do is sit back & let it continue. Who would want to give the no-hoper labor Govt. any good ideas

Get out of here......thats the message this government is giving to the people of nsw. I would really love for someone to sit down and work out exactly how much in fees, taxes, administration charges, etc does a person in NSW actually pay. I wonder after all that how much a person is left with if they are earning say $75,000 per year. If you're young, smart, ambitious, why bother with Australia.
