Weary Aussies back on home soil after Thailand chaos

More weary tourists have arrived back safely in the country, frustrated by the Thai government's response to the current political upheaval.

It's been an arduous and frustrating experience, but for many Australian travellers, it's just great to be back on home soil.

John Kolyvas, his wife and three young children touched down in Sydney on board a Qantas evacuation flight this evening.

They'd been stranded in their Phuket resort for the past six days, he says information was scarce.

"The Thai government weren't really giving us much information at all – on the internet the only place with information was from the papers here."

Alan Johansen also came through the arrivals gate, eager to see his wife, whose birthday he'd missed.

He says his fellow travellers tried to remain upbeat.

"Very good spirit and everybody was relieved to get out of there."
