Gossip Girl lands on Nine

3/12/2008 11:07:00 AM.  | Tim Brunero

One of the most controversial shows to come out of America in years, Gossip Girl, is about to land on Channel Nine.

And there’s no better indication of the show’s naughtiness than it’s airing time – 10.30 at night.

The controversial show, which has been attacked by Christian groups in the US, follows the lives of a bunch of spoilt rich school kids from Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Sound like the same formula behind shows like Beverley Hills 90210 and The O.C. except on the East Coast? Well that’s because it is.

But at least it’s a bit 21st century revolving as it does around an anonymous blog by the all knowing though ultra-secretive "Gossip Girl".

No on knows Gossip Girl’s identity but everyone in this exclusive and vicious circle relies on websites and text messages for her latest scoop.

Episode one revolves around the return of Serena Van der Woodsen once the Upper East Side’s most notorious party girl – Serena has been in self-imposed exile at a boarding school and returned to Manhattan.

Featuring refugees from shows like Veronica Mars, 24, Entourage, Children of Men and Melrose Place Gossip Girl certainly has the pedigree to be a hit here in Oz.

The ultra bitchy show is based on the best-selling young-adult novels of the same name and has a ramped up web presence with blogs and other tit bits which give the show extra depth.

Gossip Girl airs tonight on Channel Nine.
