Religious rant casts further doubt over MP James Bidgood

A federal Labor backbencher already facing criticism for taking photos of a protester threatening to set himself alight outside Parliament House has called the global financial crisis an act of God.

James Bidgood, a first-time MP from Queensland, was forced to apologise to parliament after he agreed to supply pictures of Wednesday's incident to a newspaper in exchange for a $1,000 donation to a charity.

The MP, who was hauled over the coals by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd over his actions, has now emerged in an undated DVD showing him speaking at a function at parliament.

In the speech, he argues that Christian marches for Jesus in London caused the October 1987 stock market crash and says "when Christians pray, God does things", The Australian reports.

"In 1987 there was another march for Jesus. That took place in April. And guess what happened in October 1987? The stock market crashed. All property values lost one third of their value and over a million people lost their homes," he said in the DVD.

"I believe when Christians pray, God does things.

"I believe what is happening today is as much to do with God in economics bringing judgment."

Mr Bidgood also warned the world was in the end times.

"I believe that there is God's justice in action in what's going on here and we haven't seen the end of it," he said.

"The ultimate conclusion is like I say we look at Bible prophesy we're going towards a one-world bank and a one-world monetary system and if you believe the word of God and you read Revelations ... you will see clearly what's being spelt out and we are in the end times."

Surely there must be some kind of rule preventing people with delusional mental illnesses from standing for Parliament?

Fairly normal week for the Labor Party. Two former Labor MP's booked on corruption charges and this goose unveiling his shonky intentions. And they were all elected by voters of brain dead capacity

This bloke probably has more in common with Senator Steve Fielding, Peter Costello and the Hillsong crusaders of the Coalition as opposed to the membership of the ALP. But of course when the 'Conservatives' preach from their pulpits in regard to religion and the morality of man, proclaiming the forthcoming 'rapture' as Gospel and they expect the nation to believe that they are 'Holier then Thou' and prophets of God.

Cuckoo, Cuckoo, Cuckoo !!!! He sounds like a wierdo from a religious cult. Could probably take him to a hospital and have him scheduled ! I guess he was trying to sell the photos to supplement his paliamentary salary. Maybe it was an act of God that caused him to take the photos. Sounds like the idiot that wanted to set himself on fire was a nutter. Maybe the two have a lot to talk about. Pray for him and God may punt him out of Politics ! LOL !!!!!!!

hmmmm - this rant reminds me of the hard core right side of the US republican party....why is it that the people who "rant" always seemed to be the ones with questionable morality. I know a few deeply religious christians, and none of them would behave in the way that this man has, & none of them would make such a ridiclous statement as this.

So this bloke has done some slightly weird things. What about Belinda Neal? She has a string of nasty, possibly illegal, actions to her credit, but it didn't suit Rudd to do anything (other than make her have anger management?!?). She better not try to get tough with me, I have spent 25 years becoming a martial arts genius and I could drop her so fast she wouldn't know whether it was me or that pock-marked blob she is married to who hit her. You have been warned Belinda Neal.

This is what we call a hypocrite one minute he is praying to god the next he is trying to flog a picture of a man trying to burn himself to make a statement You don't need a long neck to be a goose.

This bloke is a 1st class dope. Pity the protester didn't pour petrol ove Bigdood. Is it too late to deport this Pom dope or are we stuck with him. Can we change the immigration law. We can call it the Bigdood amendment. We really need to be able to deport immigrants who break the law or seriously embarrass us like Bigdood has done. Get rid of him.

It is easy to say that this guy is looney, I don't know if this is God's doing nobody does. However if there is a very small chance it is God, I think I will leave the criticism to someone else. It is easy to judge someone when your standing with the crowd. It takes balls to stand up and say something that goes against them!!!!!!!!!!!!

John I don't think God would want to associate himself with this moron. As far as i can tell God is too all-knowing to fall for Bigdoods rantings. Bigdood needs to go to church more often and pray for forgiveness. and pray.. and pray.. and pray.......

He can't have it both ways. Either it's prophecy or it's our fault. It can't be both since we cannot possibly override the prophecy of an omnipotent and omniscient God. If it's prophecy, then praying can't change it, greed can't change it and the Rudd government, of which Bidgood is a member, can't change it. If anyone could change it, either the bible would be wrong - or this isn't the prophecised end times, in which case Bidgood and other end-times evangelists are wrong - again and again...

This is a great example of the pot calling the kettle black. Labor always tries to denigrate the Coalition with talk about the extreme religious right now they have to admit that they are part of the extreme religious left.
