Despite the homeless crisis facing the nation, new figures show local council approvals for new public housing have plunged to a 25 year low.
New South Wales accounted for 30 percent of public houses built across the country in the 90's, since 2000 that's fallen to 20 percent.
Shadow minister for housing Chris Hartcher says the state government has failed the socially disadvantaged.
“Today’s figures show that the socially disadvantaged in our society who are waiting up to 10 years on a waiting list for public housing simply can’t get it, and won’t be able to get it because the state government has walked away from its responsibilities to provide it.”
