Not more nudity! Can Sydney get sick of skin?

Today it was the turn of Animal Liberation to have a crack at grabbing some skin-based attention – although at about 17 degrees in the city, they may have picked the wrong season.

The ‘End the SufFURing’ campaign features nude models declaring “We’d rather go naked than wear fur”, a line borrowed from PETA’s international campaign that saw top-line celebs pose nude and red paint splashed on furs.

Animal Lib say fur imports into Australia have increased significantly over the past four years and action is needed to stem the flow.

They say animals are beaten, drowned, injected with poison and anally-electrocuted to preserve the appearance of the fur.

But after nude demonstrations in the last few months for everything from anti-bull fighting to skin care promotion, is it possible Sydney may be getting over naked protests?

What do they intend doing about leather? Last time I looked it was an animal skin. Shoes, belts handbags and other items. Will I be harrassed for my elephant skin shoes and crocodile belt ? Can they stop me in the traffic for nappa seats in my German sports car ? Why don't these layabouts do something possitive ? Get out of the heart bleeding and save some animals. Go to the Artic and save the baby seals. Go to the Far East and teach animal repect to snake skinners !

I am so sick of naked protests, we get it your comfortable being naked. I wonder though, if they weren't attractive would they finally be taken in for indecent exposure? I'm fine with people being naked, I have always taught the kids that your body is fine but you aren't supposed to be naked in public. I took them into the QVB and naked women, that just makes me feel awkward and its unnecessary. Why do they have to be naked?

The protest in the nude may seem crass and cheap in its presentation and a news-grapping prank, but the seeming triviality hides a very real and horrific problem. Animals are raised and killed in such extreme poverty and cruel conditions for the fashion trade. Why are these issues not dealth with by laws that probit the inport of fur? So many animal-right breeches exist within Australia and overseas with Australia's support. Protest should not go to theses extremes.

I must protest, one of those supposedly nude protesters is wearing skin tone panties. I think there needs to be more reality in such protests, if they are to be as effective as they can be.

I have no objection to women without clothing.Personally I say bring it on. ..... But the causes that they champion are not of interest to me or any other hot blooded Aussie male.

i wear fur. naked women out there... are you cold? if so, FUR could be YOUR SAVIOUR! Leather.. I LOVE LEATHER... why waste a dead animal? After eating the meat, wear the skin. Mankind has a history of doing so. Why fight with nature and tradition? Roast Lamb is delicious.... and ugg boots are warm. The FUR NAZIs want us to be cold and uncomfortable in synthetics OR naked like them. Great choice you IDIOTS. Luckily i take choice number 3. Wear FUR, stay warm and eat delicious and tasty meat.

I can understand people being sick of nude protests etc, but i can see their point in this stunt. Fur is about image and appearance, so i think the "naked" thing was justified. To Sport Hunter and others, do the research, watch the fur footage then make your criticisms. I'm just your typical Aussie bloke, but what I saw made me sick. I don't find chicks in fur at all attractive. Makes me want to club them like my caveman ancestors did. They too wore fur. Evolve, people!

I dont find anything wrong with the naked protest...it wasnt needed but seriously whats the big deal. This is about the animals getting skinned just for the name of fashion and to me its not even the best looking thing to wear. About them being naked in the protest is they're in their skin and let the animals keep theirs. To that stupid comment 'Wear FUR, stay warm and eat delicious and tasty meat. ' your just selfish......dont give a shit bout anyone or anything else but yourself. =]

The shallow responses show that it is inappropriate to use human naked bodies as a way of raising sensitive issues. The nudity gets all the attention and the issue is thus lost, however atrocious and callous the fur industry is! Nudity just brings out the "animal" level of the species and inhibits any intelligent debate or the facts of the inhumanity of this industry. If any issue illustrates the triviality and selfishness of homo-sapiens, it is THIS exact industry!

Its a shame that everyone is focussing on the nudity and not the issue. When it comes to certain issues that aren't as "news-worthy" or of consideration, some actions are needed to get the issue out there. Face it, if these people didn't protest in the "nude", people wouldn't be discussing it. If you even tried to think about it, it's about getting the issue out there, no matter what it takes. If you're focussing on the nudity rather than the message, its more of a reflection of your mentality

great campaign ! the only way animals can be saved from the torture and abuse of these industries is if the public are aware of the cruelty and does something about it ! Boycotting and industry is the best thing you can do, if you wouldn't give money to a rapist, murder then why would you give it is a sadistic and heartless animal abuser. People need to take matters into their own hands instead of relying on others to do so !

She was wearing knickers the bloody cheat! I wonder how many nylons had to suffer a cruel death just so she could hide her buttocks! If youre gonna do a nude protest.. do it NUDE! ... and use smaller placards too.. and a bit of street marching would be nice, not just sitting down on the job.. thats just lazy!

response to the idiots who are fur supporters-ignorance and clueless! As one of the undercover investigators of the chin.fur industry, i saw first hand the barbaric, brutal & unimaginable cruelty that is involved. K. Bennet from NY, fur bearing animals arent destined for the meat market-unless you are one of the few westerners that eat racoon dogs, foxes, minks, dogs & cats-laughable! & your whole nature excuse? coming from someone from new york? haha Your english is poor.. not chinese are you?

In response to mr pervy-perhaps they didnt go completely nude because of our anti-nudity laws. & nylon suffering and dying? idiot! it was done based on a concept, an idea...perhaps it was a bad choice as it seems that the stupid can't see past the nudity and can't seem to give any consideration to the real issue here - putting a stop to the horrible fur industry and all related practices, especially to those fur hags that wear slow rotting hides and call it fashion.

To Mr Pervy - if you actually took the time to visit their website (www.endthesuffuring.org), the seated idea was to match the photo image that they're using in this campaign. anyway at least they're doing SOMETHING rather than thinking of their own, selfish needs. what are you doing to help stop any sort of suffering - whether that of fellow humans or animals? nothing- thought so....go back to your porn sites, mr pervy.

All you dip sticks need to go home and get a job and have a real look at life. There is a problem out there, but it is in the antactic and Norway, not Australia. Give us a call when you get back and show us the videos. Hey , you will need a fur coat as plastic ones are no good, same as plastic boots. Dont forget, you will need fur everything.BYE

What the?? seems the ones who support fur are ignorant & just plain IDIOTIC! I happen to know few of the models -one is currently studying a law degree. another model has a degree in biochemistry. all of them have jobs, and are way more educated than you, Learn to write proper english. I see you're from Hong Kong...another Asian country saturated with animal cruelty, namely fur! btw..there is a difference between synthetic and plastic, you TWIT!

It's no surprise that people who don't have a problem with fur are concentrating on having a shot at those that are trying to make a difference. Instead of concentrating on silly stereotypes, the usual retorts about their intellectuality or employment, perhaps pro-fur supporters concentrate on proving that the fur industry isn't one of cruelty. To Garry Ward and other pro-fur simpletons, go to Youtube type in "chinese fur farms" and you'll have your videos. Then again, we all know you won't.

To the anti-fur protestors, good on you for trying to bring the issue to the fore. The horrendous fur industry, in particular, chinese fur farms, have been in operation for years and should be stopped. You'd think with our supposed 'intelligence' & sense of ethics we'd stop abusing weaker species for things as crass as wearing their dead skin.
