Mokbel's sister-in-law pleads guilty to perjury

The jailed sister-in-law of alleged drug trafficker Tony Mokbel has pleaded guilty to perjury charges.

In an attempt to provide funds for Tony Mokbel's bail surety, Renate Lisa Mokbel, 38, signed an affidavit declaring assets, including a luxury Brunswick home, belonged to her when they did not.

She also falsely stated in the Victorian Supreme Court that a list of assets belonged to her.

Mokbel is currently serving a two-year jail sentence after failing to come up with a $1 million surety when her brother-in-law fled Australia.

She appeared in court via video link today to plead guilty to the perjury charges.

As the charges were read out, Mokbel was asked how she pleaded.

She replied "guilty" to both charges.

Charge one related to her falsely swearing an affidavit that properties in Brunswick and Kilmore and two Mercedes-Benz cars belonged to her.

The second charge related to her falsely declaring that a list of assets belonged to her.

Mokbel, who told the court her address was the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre - Victoria's women's prison - was remanded in custody for a pre-sentence hearing on September 29.
