Rudd launches book on Kevin07 campaign

22/07/2008 1:07:00 PM.  |
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has recalled some of the more ridiculous moments during last year's federal election campaign as he launched a new book on Labor's journey to victory.

Introducing the book, Inside Kevin 07, Mr Rudd recounted in Sydney how a plane carrying 25 journalists from Mackay in Queensland to Perth was forced to make a pit stop in Alice Springs when the toilet broke down.

And at a Brisbane shopping centre, an elderly lady in a wheelchair urged him to touch her breast where her pet marsupial was sitting.

"A terrified sugar glider felt as if it had been somehow trapped in a ravine somewhere in the Himalayas," Mr Rudd told the audience assembled for the launch.

Inside Kevin 07, written by journalist Christine Jackman, recounts how a rookie team achieved Labor's third largest swing just 11 months after Mr Rudd took over as leader.

Mr Rudd said he believed his win was down to Australia's concerns over the volatile financial climate, lack of productivity hidden by the resources boom, poor broadband technology, the climate change crisis and worries we were "facing a much more complex region in a much more complex world than ever before".

But he added that eight months into his leadership, with the crises in the financial markets, and the alarming affects of climate change and nuclear proliferation, the problems facing Australia were more alarming than ever.

"The global storm clouds gathering are even darker ... reinforcing the urgency for a long-term responsible reform agenda to see Australia through," he said.

Rudd is so far up himself that he wouldn't know global warming if it jumped up and bit his bum!

Well its good to see that "Our leader" thinks he has everything so under control that he can take time out to gloat yet again about his glorious victory. I'll try to remember how wonderful he is as I'm standing at the checkout hoping that the cash register adds up to the same amount as my little calculator and when I'm walking the kids to school tomorrow to save petrol . I hope the book lists all the things he said he COULD fix & now admits to having NO control over.

The "most ridiculous moment in last year's federal election campaign" was Rudd winning it! Get over it Kev AND GET ON WITH THE JOB. Take your hand out of your pocket, leave the wax in your ear, AND GET THE COUNTRY BACK WHERE IT WAS BEFORE YOU SCREWED IT UP.

Dapto, when second rate journalists are preferred over genuine leaders then this country has a great deal of trouble ahead. I'd like to see McKew handle a post 9/11 or Asian crisis scenario. On second thoughts....I wouldn't. Under pressure Rudd and his band of merry disciples will collapse. Hope we don't have anything serios happen between now and 2010.

If it wasnt for the Green preferences Mr Howard wouldnt have lost his seat and that is the same for many other seats . That is what the rush into emission trading at any cost is all about. Paying back those that helped to get Rudd elected. It doesnt matter if its the right thing for the country , just as long as debts are paid in time for the next election. Has Ms McKew done anything great in Benelong in the last 8 months?. She had all the headlines during the election but we never hear a thing

P.K. Dapto, I think your both wrong. As with most of our elections the Most ridiculous moment is when Parties pass on their votes as preferences! This is a practise we need to kick out of Politics. If the Minor parties dont want the votes given them, they should get out of politics!! Ban preference votes!

KRUDD - 1st ever PM for Negativity, Blame others & Dark Storm Clouds. Banks raised interest rates without the reserve banks direction- that's a 1st. Petrol and food skyrocketed; Treasurer Turkey pleaded "help my working families" & corporate Australia dances all over them. Howard’s record cannot be beaten by KRUDD, who's simply ignorant of basic economic facts & uses BS instead. Hawke, Whitlam etc also didn't work with business- the investment & jobs providers. Oops I'm SORRY about PM KRUDD.
