A man is in a serious condition at a Brisbane hospital after being punched to the ground in an argument over a bowser at a petrol station, police say.
The 29-year-old man is in an induced coma at the Princess Alexandra Hospital after a man punched him at the Carindale service station, about 4.25pm (AEST) yesterday.
The attack apparently came without warning and the man was knocked to the ground, hitting his head on the concrete.
"It appears a cowardly attack, the offender has walked straight up to the person, there has been very little altercation or conversation and there's been one big king hit," Inspector Rod Kemp told reporters in Brisbane.
Police believe the incident was sparked after the victim jumped the queue by claiming an unoccupied bowser.
"It appears that it's merely been a case of someone's backed in and taken a bowser ahead of someone else," Insp Kemp said.
The offender is described as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, about 180 to 190cm tall, and with a solid build.
He was wearing a brown shirt and shorts and left in a navy or dark blue Jeep Cherokee with a Queensland registration number beginning with 050K.
Police say he was with a woman, also of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, who was aged in her mid to late teens, 160cm tall, with a thin build and dark curly hair tied up in a bun.
She was wearing a green t-shirt and three-quarter length pants.
