The former boy-band singer, Brian McFadden, may be Delta’s sweetheart but he’s lost love from the gay community after telling New Zealand's More FM radio station, "if you're not gay, a man should not be wearing pink."
“Unless of course you’re in the America’s Cup and you’re one of these punces… and you wear pink and you wear white trousers with those dirty brown slip-on shoes, fine, then you’re just an idiot.
“No normal bloke should wear pink t-shirts.
“Deliberately loving pink, wearing pink underwear, pink socks, pink shirts, pink anything – is wrong.”
Rainbow Youth co-ordinator, Robert Marshall, told GayNZ.com that McFadden’s comments are terrible.
"A lot of young people are quite impressionable, and when they see celebrities saying stuff like that, they think it's OK to say it themselves," Mr Marshall said.
"Guys that do anything feminine get labeled as gay, even if they aren't gay themselves.
McFadden left Westlife four years ago and Mark Freehily, a former Westlife member, came out of the closet in 2005.
GayNZ.com report that McFadden has been quoted as “having respect for his gay fans”.
The YouTube clip showing the offensive comments made by McFadden has given YouTube members the opportunity to share their two-cents about McFadden’s dress sense and sense of being.
A YouTube member only identified as dmpb2007 finds McFadden’s comments a bit rich, given his music career history.
“More to the point: This from a man who used to be in Westlife?”
Another user of the site, known by the pseudonym gm28 shows offence to McFadden’s comments.
“What an absolute jerk! I'm so angry listening to this.
"I hope his f*****g career is over after this shocking homophobic outburst.”
Meanwhile TheMcAnus, sees where the star is coming from.
“Pink is a feminine colour, he has a point!!!”
