A 29-year-old woman has given birth on a plane over Australia on a flight from Hong Kong.
She had been visiting family in India and was returning to her husband in Adelaide, giving birth to a healthy baby boy about 5.30 (CST) this morning.
Four doctors on board helped her delivery, believed to be her first.
The plane's made an unscheduled stop in Darwin, where mother and child were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital.
And RDH spokeswoman says although the baby's six weeks early he weighs 2.7 kilos and is breathing unaided in the hospital's special care nursery.
The mother is reportedly jetlagged but stable and the father is expected to arrive on a flight from Adelaide this evening.
Despite his unusual entrance into the world, the boy will have Indian nationality.
