Going, going gone: Couple watch crane crush dream home

1/09/2008 7:08:00 PM.  | Richard Maxton
A Sydney couple has seen their dream home destroyed when a crane tipped over, crushing the waterfront property.

Graham and Jaqueline Leech were standing on the back porch of their home in Miranda in Sydney's south, watching the crane lower a spa bath into their newly rennovated bathroom when they noticed it leaning to the right.

"We heard over the radio, 'Stop stop stop' then suddenly there was a boom," Mr Leech told News Ltd.

"The spa hit the railing then the whole thing just tumbled over."

The boom of the crane slammed into the sandstone and weatherboard home - which the couple had almost finished renovating - splitting the house in half down its length.

"I doubt any of the house is salvageable," Mr Leech added.

The crane also fell through power lines, expected to leave residents of Marson Crescent, Miranda without power for hours as police and fire crews try to remove the vehicle.

The crane driver sustained minor cuts to his hand.
