Sarah Palin denies extramarital affair

4/09/2008 11:51:00 AM.  | Anil Lambert-Patel

John McCain’s campaign team is threatening to sue America’s National Enquirer after the tabloid ran a story claiming vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has had an extramarital affair.

Although the National Enquirer is usually considered a trash tabloid in political circles, the publication has earned a degree of relevance after breaking news of the John Edwards affair.

The paper had insisted the Democratic candidate had a child with his lover while his wife was ill with breast cancer and eventually proved it with pictures of the pair meeting at an LA hotel.

“Following our John Edwards exclusives, our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign's vetting process,” the Enquirer said in a statement.

But Chief Republican Strategist Steve Schmidt said the new Palin report was “scurrilous” and completely untrue.

"The smearing of the Palin family must end. The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Gov. Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie," said Mr Schmidt.

"The efforts of the media and tabloids to destroy this fine and accomplished public servant are a disgrace.

"The American people will reject it."

She is republican. She is therefore selfish, greedy and has no problem lying and killing for her own benefit. OF COURSE SHE HAD AN AFFAIR! probably more than one.

I really wouldn’t doubt this story since I have known about it for a long time. Weird though since my cousin lives in Alaska and said, when Palin was mentioned by the press to be the VP choice of McCain that there were “many secrets in her closet that would shock the McCain campaign and that she was a deceptive, control freak who didn’t care who she stepped on. He also said that there was an affair and he thought it would be made public”. I laughed at him because I am a McCain supporter but now I am really wondering if she is going to ruin McCain’s chances. I guess time will tell. The Enquirer is not likely to mess with the powerful forces of McCain and the Republicans without proof. Makes me shiver.

Mr. Schmidt's statement re Sarah Palin having an affair is outrageous, however, one must consider the source. Democrats envy the success of conservative-type people and should be pitied as they are unable to emulate them . Go Sarah Palin!!!

"Democrats envy the success of conservative-type people and should be pitied as they are unable to emulate them " Where in the world did you get that from? I would vote democrat if i lived in the US. Everything the republicans stand for, is everthing I detest in the right wing side of the liberal party. I can assure you, there is no republican envy from the democrats, only disgust, & gratefullness that we aren't Republican. Red neck, war mongering, gun toting christian right family values BLAH!

I wouldn't doubt an affair. Actually, look at her. If she had had three or four affairs I wouldn't doubt and wouldn't blame her. She is a beautiful woman. It stands to reason she would have a plethora of opportunities to stray presented to her all her life. It's not easy being an overly attractive woman. It must be fun, but it has to have it's share of headaches, too.

It is also being said that the bay is not hers but the daughters and maybe McCain knows her better than we know and maybe the baby is his. McCain has a defferent personality . Could he be suffering from major depression or demencia. There was lots of talk on this last night on C-Span.Palin is realy mean spirited .Her looks do not match her personality . She is sarcastic and she turns her noise up as if she is smelling something when talking about Obama . Obama did not attack her personally.

I am a former Alaskan resident. It is well known in Alaska that she had an affair or two. She is a blood sucking character who will take the country in the wrong direction. I like McCain, but he will not get my vote with this one. She is loaded with hate; her daughter's boyfriend is correct, they are all f-------n rednecks.

What are you talking about, D Bedford? The boy in question is only two or three months old. How could the daughter have had that child and have another this coming December. She's a young girl, not a rabbit, for crying out loud. Make some sense, man.

You need to get the facts straight....the baby was born in April, making him 5+ months old. Maybe she is a redneck rabbit.

I don't know diddley about this woman, but my first impression of her is that she is a complete bitch. Some of her beliefs belong back in the 1800's and according to popular press, she made a mess of her political jobs in Alaska. She strikes me as being a rootin' tootin', gun totin' version of Mark Latham in drag, type of gal. Nor would I be surprised to find out that she kick starts her own menstrual cycle and rolls her own tampons. I wouldn't trust her as far as I can spit!!

it is time we license "journalist" so we can take it away when they write an article like this. then maybe think twice before writing an article like the above. by the way, the so called press sat on the story of john edwards for how many yrs. it is a shame such a noble profession has end up in the gutter.

This women is the biggest mistake the republicans made. She is a MILF thats about it. But one who is willing to do anything for power. Her only experience is selling jet on ebay, she is anti environment, she has supported killing animals overtly, she is the biggest oil co supporter, she supports abstinence and is anti abortion yet her own back yard has her children f'ing like rabbits, cant help it I guess now that its out she herself despite all of lords saying has been a tramp wt affairs.

Judging by the absurd vitriol aimed at Palin on this and other forums, I think the Loony Left is truly worried about this woman. I think the left-wing media is worried that their pick for president is starting to look like a bit of a loser. The great "change agent" Obama, who has been exposed as nothing more than a professional, ambitious politician who has avoided doing ANYTHING just in case is it the WRONG thing, up against McCain and Palin, whose achievements and sacrifices are plain to see.

You get the impression that Sarah Palin's husband looks like a simple guy - its Palin who is the aggressive one. Pimp Mac 'Daddy' Cain should have did his research on the candidate - now instead of telling us how - his connection to Big Oil - will not affect how he runs the country - i.e. in their interest rather than 'for you' - he is now having to put out flames left in Sarah's trail. Did anyone tell Mac Daddy that Sarah never sold that plane on eBay!!

Why is it that only perfect people can be the president and vice president. That really narrows down the field does it not? How can people speculate on the governor of the great state of Alaska without a shred of evidence to support thier incredulous position, other than gossip and innuendo. I suppose if Mother Teresa ran for the highest office the pundits would do the same to her. Have you no shame. Governor Sarah Palin is a bright, articulate, experienced woman that deserves a chance.

Having an extramarital affair according to several court rulings by a government public official is "unbecoming an officer" - the question centers on the reputation and credibility of the government official charged with adultery even if the charges are made by the courts of public opinion. A person who engages in adultery is a liar.
