Test great Tim Horan believes the Suncorp Stadium factor and Australia's self-belief will transform the wounded Wallabies from whipping boys to Tri-Nations champions.
Horan conceded Australia would start the September 13 tournament decider against New Zealand as clear underdogs but expected a major form reversal.
The Wallabies are currently licking their wounds from the weekend's record 53-8 defeat to South Africa while the All Blacks are coming off a 101-14 massacre of Samoa last night.
However, former 80-Test centre Horan said Australia would lift significantly in front of a 52,500 capacity crowd at the Brisbane cauldron where they most savour playing.
Backing the sentiments are statistics showing the Wallabies have lost just once over 12 years at Suncorp Stadium.
"They will be underdogs but I reckon they will bounce back and win it," Horan told AAP. "I think they will, as long as they believe in themselves.
"They have good success at Suncorp Stadium, it's a fast track and it gives them a lot of confidence having the 52,500 people virtually on top of them.
"It certainly helps their style."
Although Suncorp has been a fortress for Australia, the All Blacks can still take great pride in their 13-2-2 record in Brisbane, where Bledisloe Cup encounters have traditionally been extremely tight.
The Wallabies' only Brisbane defeat since 1996 came in 2006 when All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw inspired New Zealand to a 13-9 Tri-Nations triumph in a rugged, high-quality encounter.
McCaw's performance, which included a match-saving cover tackle on try-bound Mark Gerrard, had proud coach Graham Henry claiming his skipper couldn't play any better.
Suggesting the decider could again be close, all of the last eight Bledisloe Tests in Queensland dating back to 1968, including two draws, have gone down to the wire.
Seven points has been the biggest winning margin, from the All Blacks' 32-25 1996 win when Frank Bunce scored on fulltime to break a 25-all deadlock.
A draw won't be enough for Australia with New Zealand (14) holding a one-point advantage on the Tri-Nations table, plus a far better for-and-against differential.
Horan said this week's break would be the perfect tonic for the stewing Wallabies to prepare for a title-winning upset.
"I think two weeks (break) is perfect for them really, use this week to reassess what went wrong and understand what they have to work on and obviously they can redeem themselves in front of a home crowd," he said.
"The team has a good culture and a good self-belief."
