The 13th Paralympics have opened in spectacular style in Beijing with more than five thousand performers starring in the opening ceremony.

More than half the Australian team marched around the birds nest during the ceremony led by six time gold medallist Russell Short.

Head coach of the Australian Wheelchair Rugby Team Brad Dubberley says the entire Australian team is gearing up to get started.

“The morale is very good, our spirits are high and everyone is feeling very confident and relaxed and ready to unleash on the competition,” he said.

“We think we have a pretty good shot…the sooner the better.”
