Eva Longoria is set to star in new comic book movie ‘The Avengers’.

The ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress was spotted leaving the Los Angeles offices of Marvel Comics, who published the original cartoon strips.

It has now been reported the 33-year-old beauty is up for the role of Janet Van Dyne, also known as The Wasp, in the film which is due for release in 2011 – the same year in which Eva’s hit US TV show is expected to finish.

The Wasp is a superheroine who is at the centre of the Avengers stories. She has the ability to contract her body to around half an inch or lengthen it to several hundred feet to help her fight crime.

It is unclear which actors have been approached to take on the roles of the other Avengers, including Hawkeye, Iron Man, The Hulk and Black Widow.

Eva recently finished shooting new movie ‘Lower Learning’, a school-based comedy, and also voices a character in upcoming animated film ‘Foodfight!’
