Bill Murray, who portrayed the wise cracking Dr. Peter Venkman in the wildly popular supernatural comedy franchise Ghostbusters, has solidified rumours that there will be a third installment in the series.
Speaking at the Fantastic Fest film festival in Austin Texas to promote his new movie The City Of Ember, Murray voiced his willingness to engage in a new Ghostbusters project.
“They have hired two guys from The Office (Popular American series starring Steve Carell) to write a script – so that could work, I think that’s a good idea to hear a fresh look at it. I’ve always liked the characters, the characters are fine. And we did have a lot of fun making the (original) movie.” Murray said.
Sharing the broad sentiment that 1989’s Ghostbusters II was not as strong as its predecessor, Bill joked with the crowd.
“I think the wounds from Ghostbusters II are healed”. The 58-year-old said – delivered with his signature deadpan droll.
The American actor had just put the finishing touches to a larger than life video game version of the movie series – and there are suggestions that the third movie could be an all-CG affair, echoing the digitized style of the latest Star Wars installment – Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
After completing the voices for video game, Murray said his enthusiasm for the series was revitalized.
“It was fun to do it again – I found myself walking down Fifth Avenue (In New York, where the film was based) singing the song. People must have been thinking ‘Wow that guy is really full of himself.’”
Ghostbusters III is still in the developmental stages, but given approval of the new script, fans could be seeing Venkman, Stantz, Spengler and Zeddemore toasting ghosts on the big screen in the not too distant future.
