Teenager spiked 'friend's' drink to steal his cash

9/10/2008 1:10:00 PM.  | AAP
A teenager spiked her friend's drink so she could steal his money, a Brisbane court has heard.

Jasmin Anne Smith today was sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty to one count each of stealing and stupefying to commit an indictable offence.

The Brisbane District Court heard Smith, from West End in Brisbane and aged 18 at the time of the offences in December 2005, used benzodiazepine to spike the drink of a 50-year-old taxi driver she had been friends with for about a month.

After she had administered the drug, which causes extreme drowsiness when taken with alcohol, she stole $324 from him.

The court heard she had been going through a difficult period in her life at the time, and had been addicted to the drug, which had been prescribed to her for her anxiety.

Under the terms of her probation she will have to report regularly to police and undergo drug testing.
