The RSPCA says it will thoroughly investigate a case of cruelty involving a possum and her joey being strapped into a cardboard box and left in a charity bin west of Brisbane.
RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty says the severely stressed and dehydrated animals were found in a St Vincent De Paul donations bin in Sumner Park on Monday.
It's thought the animals had been in the bin for two days.
Mr Beatty says the case is incredibly callous and follows a string of other cruel acts against native animals around Brisbane.
The RSPCA hopes the mother and joey can be released back in the wild in the next few days.
