Street racer comes forward after innocent bystander killed

16/10/2008 7:31:00 AM.  | Laura Tunstall
A motorcyclist has come forward to police after a suspected drag race in Sydney's southwest which claimed the life of an innocent motorist.

Father of Four Toufic el Zahab was killed instantly when a Honda convertible swerved onto the wrong side of the Hume Highway at Warwick Farm on Tuesday night, colliding with his Toyota Hiace van.

Witnesses reported seeing the Honda racing a motorbike shortly before the accident - yesterday a 35-year-old Liverpool man contacted police.

He says he was riding a motorbike in the area at the time - he's been released pending further inquiries but detectives believe he is the rider they were looking for.

They're now appealing for more witnesses to the crash - anybody who may have seen the motorbike or Honda travelling along the Hume Highway on Tuesday night is urged to contact police.
