Depression blamed for Greg Bird's attack

19/10/2008 1:45:00 PM.  | Victoria Owens
A history of depression could explain an alleged attack by NRL star Greg Bird on his girlfriend last month.

The 24-year-old's mother claims he was showing symptoms of depression in the days before he allegedly lashed out at Katie Milligan.

The Cronulla player has also been on anti-depression medication and undergoing counselling since the alleged incident.

More excuses. Depression seems to be the next best defence after being drunk. Stand up and be a man Greg Bird.

Depression is not an excuse for hitting someone and reporting like this is what causes sigma against people with mental illness as the general public who have had nothing to do with mental illness assume all people with depression and metal illness are violent axe murders when most of them won't hurt a fly and just want society to give them a fair go. Live news needs to lift their game with reporting like this too as this not the first article on this site that give mental illness a bad name.

Why wouldnt Greg be depressed?with all the sh** going on around him,the media watching hes every move, and everyone bagging him out, what about the other players from the Broncos and there antics ?not much is being said about that, and there getting all the privacy they want.Sure Gregs stuffed up but doesnt mean he has to be written off as a footy player,im still a huge fan and always will be.
