Patients will be forced to pay an extra two dollars when visiting the doctor, as local GPs prepare to put up their prices.
The 3.3 per cent price hike, touted by the Australian Medical Association, will see patients now forking out $62 a consultation.
The union has defended the move, claiming their wages haven't been matched by Medicare rebate increases in the past decade.
And with the Federal Government expected to only approve a 2.3 per cent increase in the Medicare Rebate - the gap will see patients left out of pocket.
Health Minister Nicola Roxon says the price hikes are unwarranted, with doctors wages also boosted by tax-payer-funded incentives.
