A kangaroo has been beaten to death by three children – but not in Australia.
The incident occurred at a Russian zoo, where two 12-year-old boys and a 10 year-old girl are alleged to have brutally killed the kangaroo and three seagulls.
The trio have been detained in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, according to the Moscow Times.
The boys allegedly climbed into the kangaroo pen at the zoo, beating the animal with a stick and throwing stones at a group of seagulls as the girl acted as a lookout.
If the children are found guilty of animal cruelty, their parents can be fined up to 80,000 rubles ($A4500) under Russian law.
