Defender Chris Newman has been appointed the new captain of AFL club Richmond, replacing Kane Johnson.
The 26-year-old Newman has played 133 games for the Tigers since making his senior debut in 2002.
Newman will change his jumper from No.1 to No.17 in accordance with Richmond's policy of its skipper wearing the number made famous by Jack Dyer, their most revered player.
"It is such a massive honour and I am really grateful to the club for putting such trust in me," said Newman.
Nathan Foley, who shared the vice-captaincy with Newman this year, will be the sole vice-captain.
Johnson announced last week that he was stepping down as captain after four years in the top job.
