Queensland Premier Anna Bligh is heading to central Queensland to inspect damage caused by the third major storm to hit the state this week.

The electrical storm swept across southern Queensland on Thursday, causing damage in Brisbane, Warwick, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, before heading north.

"We're being smashed again," Scenic Rim SES controller Brendan Guy told the Courier Mail.

"There are trees down and water everywhere."

The mining town of Blackwater received hail the size of cricket balls, causing damage to at least 120 houses and businesses, during the storm which hit about 6pm (AEST) on Thursday.

At least 20 homes were seriously damaged, power poles brought down and caravans torn apart.

Police said three houses and a business had part of, or the whole of, their roofs blown off and many cars were damaged.

A command centre has been set up and the SES has been activated and are responding to calls for service.

Areas of central Queensland received up to 50mm of rain.

Ms Bligh will leave Brisbane early on Friday to inspect the damage.

At the storm's peak in south-east Queensland at least 45,000 homes were without power across Brisbane, Logan, the Darling Downs, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

Brisbane received 29mm of rain, while Coolangatta received 28mm.

Brisbane suburbs devastated by the storms on Sunday and Wednesday, such as Paddington, Red Hill, Ashgrove, Arana Hills and Everton Park, again suffered damage.

This included fallen powerlines, trees and branches blown onto powerlines, and water seeping into underground cables, Energex said.

In the CBD, a fallen tree blocked the southbound lane of busy North Quay, and a tree fell on a car on Ann Street.
No one was injured.

Power lines fell across the road on Heussler Terrace at Milton and a pedestrian was hit by a car on Main Street, Kangaroo Point.

Meanwhile, the Inner City Bypass in Brisbane has reopened to traffic after 11 million litres of floodwater was pumped out of it.

Police advised the CityCat ferries would operate on Friday but at a slower pace due to debris in the Brisbane River.

Last night we experienced more than what I have read on any news site...We did not loose our roof but what happened in Bulimba last night was absolutely horrifying. It was a cyclone like wind rush as our 2 soild storey queesnland rumbled from the intense variations of wind speed and movment, meaning, there was huge hail stones coming from one direction HORIZONTALLY and heavy rain the same but from the other direction. It was wild and extremely powerful and very terrifying!
