Gallen a 'certain starter' against Kiwis

21/11/2008 8:58:00 AM.  | Peter Cassidy
Kangaroos lock Paul Gallen has been declared a certain starter for Saturday night's World Cup final against New Zealand, with medical staff clearing him of a thigh injury.

Australian team doctor Hugh Hazard has been working with the Sharks hard-man all week, and says he's back to 100%.

"He was never going to miss the game," Hazard told News Ltd.

"Paul is fine. He'll definitely play."

Gallen has failed to train for much of the week, and despite Hazard's assessment, there are some suggestions from within the Kangaroos camp that he may start on the bench or even be a late scratching.

Meanwhile, winger Brent Tate has succumbed to his hip injury and will not play in Brisbane. Manly's David Williams has been called-up as his replacement.
