One year on Rudd's verdict is in

22/11/2008 8:50:00 AM.  | Melanie Tait

It's a year since the Rudd Government were swept to power, and voters are mixed on whether he's doing a good job.

In research conducted by the Telegraph, people are happy about the changes made to work choices and the child care rebate.

However, Mr Rudd has been accused of being all talk and now action in regards to public services.

Meanwhile, Kevin Rudd won't be punishing the NSW State Government for it's so called financial mismanagement.

The Prime Minister says he'll be assisting the state to pull itself out of a financial hole with the commonwealth's infrastructure program.

Mr Rudd says he's not concerned about the state government's reputation affecting his chances of re-election next time Australia goes to the polls.

Apparently Rudd has released a 75 page summary of his achievements (seriously!). Like many I am awaiting the 3,500 page summary of the things that he has abjectly failed on! You've gotta laugh! BTW, the penultimate paragraph in this story means "bailout!"

Rudd should be concerned about the states governments reputation. It wont be long before this labour federal government will be going down the same path as NSW,especially the way they are spending the surplus. The debt that will amass at the end of Rudds term will be massive, which is the norm whenever labour takes control.Past history has proven that.

Voters are smart enough to distinguish between state and federal. Spending is the appropriate response to the current GFC. It is not new, unusual or redical, just satraightforward reaction to the downswing of the economic cycle. The boom and bust cycle hits all nations all the time, without caring who is in power anywhere. All western developed nations are currently propping up their banks, cutting interest rates, and planning on big spending. So what's the big deal?

There were actually three national opinion polls released this week. All showed a swing to the government of around 2%. Rudd has delivered, and is delivering. Kyoto, Stolen generations, Work Choices. The list goes on. All the things that Howard could never do. And we are better off because of the changes. The rabid right whingers will doubtless challenge the polls accuracy, claiming it just can't be so. Tough, it is jst so, get used to it.

Mick S, Kyoto, Stolen generations, Work Choices, the list goes on? That’s 3 things, hardly a list, where’s the rest of the list? Kyoto is BS as it pure symbolic and nothing else. Stolen generation, nice to say sorry, but there was no acception to the apology and KRudd is going to scale back the NT intervention, result, more kids get raped, nice work KRudd. Work choices was lied about by the ALP, and get this, ALP will introduce their own which will be a carbon copy with a different name. FYI

Space prevents full listing, but include tax cuts, interest rate cuts, enhanced funding for training, education and health. Staged withdrawal from Iraq. Increased spending on solar panels and water tanks for schools, desalination plants and water recycling, clean coal funding, first home buyers deposit scheme. Perhaps you could ask Geoff Bolton for his 75 page summary. Bottom line of course, is government further ahead of a lacklustre leaderless and policy free Opposition.

Micks, the 75 page summary has been published by Rudd. Go get it at the Ministry of WMA (Weapons Of Mass Distraction)

Are you people literate? "all talk and now action" and "it's so called financial mismanagement." Basic grammar 101 - it's = it is.

Rudd will not bail out NSW. He will put money into projects NSW should have but failed to do in their desire to pork barrel funds for the ALP. I note the milestone coincides with a re introduction of a new White Australia Policy with the citizenship test. The previous test, introduced by Howard ensured new citizens had a working knowledge of culture. Rudd's new test ensures that people know the ALP creation myths to a much higher standard.

Happy Fun Ball, your usual baseless whining is becoming more irritating. Your latest baseless and ludicrous claim "Rudd's new test ensures that people know the ALP creation myths to a much higher standard". Please specify the parts of the test that you believe do this. Yes, a little real detail, instead of the rabid rightwing rant. Be specific, if you are able to, in the Aussie vernacular put up or shut up. Eagerly awaiting your response.

Rudd is good on big gestures but poor on implementation. WorkChoices was just dismantling what Howard proposed. Kyoto is a flop, and so is our so-callled "anti-whaling" actions. Empty policies and ineffective ministers. Mediocre and conservative best describes our government.

So the Rudd Government received a tick for scrapping Work Choices. A lot of the people giving the tick could find themselves out of a job because of the scrapping of Work Choices. John Howard had the foresight to realise that we had to have a radical change in out work practices in order to have any hope of competing with the Asian giants of China and India. Of course the changes were unacceptable to Labor and the Unions because they depend upon the old style of Industrial Relations for their survival-unfortunately their survival is not synonymous with a healthy economy. The current World financial crisis could be traced back to the Union style of Industrial Relations. The US Car manufacturing industry has been struggling for some time, because they could not compete with foreign manufacturers, but the Wages and conditions for the work force have kept going up. Those thrown on the scrap heaps –the rust belts- and other unemployed and low paid workers, were given loans that they could n

typical liberal yuppies, whinge whinge!Howard's gone you need to get over it.His lib replacement didn't even last a year because he was totally inept, yet they come on these forums behaving like spoilt children and criticise the rudd government.Considering the world economy at present Kevin Rudd is doing a good job.Howard had a decade plus to do the right thing by your average australian, but didn't because he didn't want to.Liberal voters always ignore thier own mistakes & shortcomings!

After putting up with mega arrogance and total distain towards the average person from the Howard team for way too long its nice to have Rudd ........sure he is not perfect but he has to try and fix all the mess that Howard and Costello created. Howard was a grandpa PM who tried to turn Australia into a 1950's presbyterian church group........well done Kevin on your first year and hope you continue to deliver over time.

Rick you will be no doubt happy then when we are turned into a 21st century third world country. 2mill more immigrants, more after that, not to mention those here illegally, no jobs, not enough housing to keep a roof over peoples heads, no agricultural industry, third world country hospitals, more children not attending school than are, in schools to small and not maintained, roads and transport in chaos , crime out of control, and the cherry on the non existant cake...no water. All with the compliments of , to begin, NSW state Labor and now Mr Rudd's Fed Labor...but hey, we will have signed Kyoto, and 90% of Workchoices will still be used as it is now.....to bad though because no one will have a job. Enjoy.

It is just so fortunate that the Fiberals were disposed of last year, imagine how embarrassing it would be if they were still in power. Australia would be fighting in Iraq all on it's own. They would be calling the USA a terrorist state. They would be arguing against closing G'bay. Ann the economy would be a real mess right now with interest rates going up. No wonder the polls show that Labor has increased it's support in the community. The Fiberals are still in a leadership vacuum as well.

Fascinating reading the press release on the Daily Telegraph. Many of the items marked 'Delivered' either have not been, or are over stated. For example, extra computers for schools. I have worked in several schools and there were not one single extra computer being used by anyone .. yet the press release reads delivered. This is because the payments for the initial roll out have been paid, although computers not delivered yet. The promise was a laptop for all.

There must be a lot of gullible and naive Australians out there...Rudd will go down in history for being the most self serving, self centered prime minister this country has ever seen.Workchoices have not as yet been wound back and the Unions are in a tiz over it..We said Sorry to the so called Stolen Generation and Nothing has changed for them.. We signed Kyoto and no country that is critical to making a difference is interested..Every child was going to have their own PC ..and still WAITING...

This inexperienced Prime Minister and inexperienced poor quality cabinet will just cause the same disasterous financial crisis as the Labor Governments of the past. Labor has never shown ability to manage the economy or the ability to create real employment. Rudd is just a show pony who is hardly ever at home where he is needed. Let us hope at least that his will be a one term government and hopefully Australia may recover quickly from his mismanagement.
