Rogers sparkles for Vics against WA

22/11/2008 9:24:00 PM.  | AAP

It was a case of home sweet home for Chris Rogers as the former Warrior smashed a sparkling century to lift Victoria to within striking distance of first innings points in their Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia at the WACA Ground.

Rogers, whose falling out with WA's hierarchy last season led to his move to the Bushrangers, blasted 19 fours and three sixes in his knock of 115 off just 132 balls.

His 122-run stand with Cameron White (47) helped lift Victoria from 3-66 to 3-188 but the loss of 5-27 following Rogers' demise brought WA back into the fight for first innings points.

Victoria will resume play on Sunday at 8-238, requiring just two more runs to overhaul WA's total of 239 with Matthew Wade (16no) and Peter Siddle (13no) at the crease.

It was a sweet return to Perth for Rogers, who was controversially left out of WA's one-day squad for much of last season.

The prolific left-hander, who played a one-off Test for Australia last summer before losing his Cricket Australia contract, has been in dominant form for the high-flying Bushrangers this season.

In eight Sheffield Shield knocks he has plundered 474 runs at an average of 67.7, while he has posted scores of 60, 17, 74 and 39 in the Ford Ranger Cup.

Warriors paceman Brett Dorey (5-65) threatened to take the game away from Victoria after snaring the wickets of Nick Jewell, Rob Quiney and David Hussey in between three rain delays earlier in the day.

But the Warriors had no answer for Rogers, who found an able ally in White.

The pair turned the momentum Victoria's way as Rogers smashed WA's pace attack to all parts of the ground, with all-rounder David Bandy coming under particular punishment.

Rogers' knock was finally brought undone when his attempted pull shot off Steve Magoffin found only his edge, sparking a collapse of 5-27 as Andrew McDonald, White, Damien Wright and James Pattinson followed Rogers back to the pavilion in quick succession.

But Wade and Siddle held their nerve to bring the visitors to within two runs of first innings points at stumps.
