Tathra survivor speaks out about family drownings

22/11/2008 7:15:00 AM.  | Victoria Owens

The fisherman who tried to save the lives of a father and his children on NSW’s south coast this week has broken his silence on the tragedy.

Australian Federal Police services officer Rob Brown has refused to be named a hero and says anybody who'd seen the three struggling off the wharf in Tathra would have jumped in and done the same.

28-year-old butcher Shane O’Neill and his two sons Riley and Travis died after failing to escape choppy waters on Tuesday night.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday in Bega.
