The Rudd Government has used Question Time to talk up its first year in office.

But Prime Minster Kevin Rudd and three senior ministers are absent from Parliament, celebrating the occasion overseas.

Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard has told Parliament Labor has spent the last year delivering on its promises, unlike previous governments.

“We wanted to rebuild faith in government,” Ms Gillard said.

“To show the Australian people that an elected government in this nation can deliver on what it promised, and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.”

Unlike previous goverments, this government was handed a strong economy with a large surplus and low unemployment> Unlike previous governments there were no nasty suprises for Swan. That being said the only two things that I can see that they have done is say sorry to the stolen generations (of which nobody can name 10 stolen children) and signed Kyoto which Ross Garnaut has labelled a joke. At this rate labor might fulfill all there promises by 2050 - subject to review.

Interesting that Labor should be the one to give itself top marks for its first year in office. And Kevin Rudd issued his own report card on his first 100 days as Prime Minister. Both of these landmarks have traditionally been the domain of journalists to score. Is the Rudd Government so concerned how they might rate that they believe they needed to get in first?

It is interesting to note that Julia Buzzard is now using the same hand/ arm gesture that the Bogan with a Slogan uses. Heil Kevin. He heil’s himself in nearly every photo in live news. Very apt; Hitler wanted a United Socialist State as does the Bogan with a Slogan; Hitler also adopted the same hand/ arm gesture; not much difference in the morals of the two either. Both very ambitious, both micro managers, both with bad tempers, both self indulgent. Almost twins really; apart from the hair cut.

It is quite appropriate that Labor is patting itself on the back-no one else with a clear conscience will be doing that. Rudd has made his big gamble-squandering the huge, Coalition created, surplus. If he loses the gamble he will have nowhere to hide because Labor does not have the way withal to create a thriving economy. Sadly the 'working families' of Australia will be wistfully hoping that they could have the steady reliable hands of the Coalition back in Government.

This Labor government is so full of themselves it is incredible! Kevin 747 is like the smart ass kid at school that no one liked and who used to dob on everyone. I fail to see what the government has done in 12 months that could be described as delivering on promises. As Peter Garrett said befor the election, they would change their policies once in power, funny how he has been kept quiet over the last year except for recent comments on whaling! This Labor party is as inept as NSW Labor .

Good on you Mal T, you are so funny! Have you ever been to Rose Bay you moron, maybe you should take yourself down there one day and you will see that it isn't only wealthy people that live there, guess what there are even a couple of homeless people. Just goes to show what kind of people Labor voters are, you are a wanker! Kevin Rudd is a joke as is Swan and that other bloke Gillard.

Come on Mark - this is Mal, your leader! Everyone knows who lives in Nose Bay and Double Pay. I bet you are doing it tough - so, please keep supporting me in these forums, and you will feel like you are achieving something. I admire you - my grey haired warrior. See you at the yacht club - yes? Or will you be go for a fly in one of the seaplanes up to Palmie maybe? DO you own your own seaplane? I do. None of that hiring stuff from the operators in Nose Bay.

Promises made, promises delivered on. Not a single "non-core promise" to be seen anywhere. And the Rudd government suitably rewarded by any and all of the two party preferred polls, with all showing a swing to the government. Looks like the Liberals will be roaming the wilderness for some time to come. The rabid right wing whiners can rail and rant and whinge weep and wail and gnash their teeth as much as they like, it makes no difference.

Labor and Rudd have blown its inheritence, and they have done it like every other person does when they dont have to work for it or know how hard it was to get it in the first place. It took the previous governemt over a decade to build this inheritence and this governement has blown it in 12 months - and thats simply because they have no idea on how hard it was to earn it in the first place. Now they pat each other on the back and say 'job well done?' Shame Labor Shame

That can"t be 12 months already!! What a disaster. Sure, the whole world has enonomic issues but everyone has to pull their weight to get over this debacle that those pathetic Americans caused. Kevin Rudd's government have been very, very, very quiet, not one election policy has been followed through. One has to give credit to Kev's freikish PR department, the Australian public has been well and truly tricked by this bloke, I thought we were better than this.

The scary part of it is that they actually THINK they have done a good job over the last year.I have to wonder how good a job they will THINK they will do next year now there's no money left.If whatever they have done the last year is goos enough for them to pat themselve's on the back we don't have much of a future in Australia

pete, a world financial meltdown would qualify as a nasty surprise surely? unemployment hasnt changed radically since the new gvt. and surpluses are meant to be spent eventually anyway. the howard, costello team economic management was poor. a trillion dollars in household debt, 2 million living on or below the poverty line. a chronic skill shortage creating inflation, decreased productivity, no increase in the superfund. massive foreign debt. very poor indeed

its all short term.....howard was popular once........next year(2009) will sound the end for the rudd government.....when unemployment reaches 15% if its not their yet..how can any government say the surplus is a good thing ....thats money that should be in the economy.....circulating...i believe that this has caused the financail problems all over the world.....the governments plus wall street...john howard, bush and, blair........ the architect of the current problems staching money away....

The Rudd government will end up the same as the howard government, welfare so far this year is $102 billion...up $40 billion.....the cost to have the federal government $79 billion so far this year......thats before one dollar is spent on the public..........is just time thats all before rudds on the nose.....is the system its politician friendly but not citizens .....friendly.....and its been around since 1901.....its old out of date...and will make as all victims in the end...
