Qantas defend A320 after fatal crash in France

28/11/2008 4:50:00 PM.  | AAP
New Qantas CEO Alan Joyce says he has full confidence in the Airbus A320 after a crash that killed seven in France.

Rescue workers say there will be no survivors from the Air New Zealand Airbus A320 jet that crashed into the Mediterranean sea near the French city of Perpignan during a test flight.

Qantas' budget carrier Jetstar boasts the A320 as the "workhorse" of its domestic fleet, operating 24 of the planes.
Mr Joyce said it was a very serious incident but he had full confidence in the aircraft.

"I think the A320 has been operating for 20 years and the level of incidents on this aircraft overall have been less than equivalent aircraft," he told reporters in Brisbane on Friday.

"I think there's absolutely no issues with the aircraft in question."

Airbus was investigating the technical issue thought to have caused the crash and was communicating with Qantas, Mr Joyce said.

"We're very happy with how Airbus are handling the issue and the communication that they have with us and we think that's in hand," he said.

"If we weren't happy with it we'd be making that known."
