Mothers have burst into tears when their sons' names are announced in the AFL national draft, signalling a move across the country.
The Vickery family were at the other end of the spectrum on Saturday.
Richmond's top pick at No.8 is Tyrone Vickery, a ruckman who has spent more than a year training at the club.
His father, John, is also a fitness coach at Punt Rd.
"It's a massive relief to be able to stay at home and go to a club that I'm familiar with, I'm very happy," Tyrone said.
Tigers recruitment manager Francis Jackson said Tyrone had impressed them while recovering from a knee injury last year.
He was brilliant this season, earning All-Australian selection after the national under-18 championships.
There was little question he would go in the first round, but where?
"It's worked out well and I didn't think it was going to happen - I thought six weeks ago he'd be at Port Adelaide or even West Coast or Fremantle," John said.
"It's only the last couple of weeks that I've entertained the thought he might slip through to Richmond, it was a big surprise."
Tyrone had enrolled in Adelaide and Perth universities, just in case.
Once Port picked Hamish Hartlett at No.4, Richmond assistant coach Brian Royal looked over at John from their club table at the draft, smiled and gave him the thumbs up.
"A lot of the word was that I was going to end up there, but you never know - I was very nervous," Tyrone said.
