Qld Premier promises train derailment investigation

30/11/2008 1:58:00 PM.  | AAP
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has promised a full and thorough investigation after the second train derailment within three days.

A sugar cane locomotive derailed at Ingham, in northern Queensland, about 11.15pm (AEST) on Saturday, just three days after two men were killed in a tilt train accident in Cardwell.

The derailments, which occurred within 50km of each other, both happened at level crossings.

In the latest incident, the train hit a B-double truck at a crossing, before running into the front awning of a nearby shop.

No one was injured.

"There are obviously real issues about level crossings and ... if there are any lessons that can be learnt from this incident then we will certainly be putting them in place," Ms Bligh told reporters on the Gold Coast.

"It's far too early to jump to any conclusions and I think there were individual circumstances in both instances, but we will certainly look to see if there are any links."

An investigation into the first crash revealed the lights were in working order just prior to the collision.
