Rudd to outline new national security policy

30/11/2008 11:43:00 AM.  | AAP
A new national security policy is expected to be outlined by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd this week.

Mr Rudd has promised he will deliver his first national security statement before the end of the parliamentary session which ends on Thursday.

The statement will become the government's overarching framework under which policies including the defence White Paper, expected early next year, will sit.

One of the papers ordered by Mr Rudd which was to feed into the statement appears to have been buried.

Former defence chief Ric Smith wrote a report on domestic security for the government and it was handed to Mr Rudd on June 30. An unclassified version of the paper is yet to be released.

It is widely anticipated Mr Rudd will take a very broad view of national security including issues like climate change, terrorism, the possibility of failed states in the Pacific and more traditional defence concerns.

The statement may include the announcement of a national security adviser.

Some analysts have suggested the adviser is likely to be Duncan Lewis - a former SAS commander and now a senior national security bureaucrat inside the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

"New National Security Policy" why is the first issue "climate change" perhaps the terrorists won't come if it's too hot or too wet. Give me a break, get the navy out there and stop the new boat arrivals. A new national security advisor, is that a name change from fuel watch guru.

How many more stupid pictures and pathetic press statements do we have to see of this person. All we see is spin spin spin and no delivery. Looks like they will dig a big hole or incinerate these many reports. Soon or later the truth will come out, it always does, when the pubic service get fed up with their masters. If Rudd is not in the press every day he has withdrawal symptoms? They are so thin skinned.

Clearly Rudd's current vision has failed when some 14 boats have been launched to Australia carrying illegal immigrants after the previous policy had been so successful. Does this mean that Rudd's new policy will be like the old one? Not likely, instead, a Rudd failure provides impetus for Rudd to attempt something stupider.

Hey Odball , Is it the thrill of post that keeps you going? Or is it the reading of your own posts that gratifies your necrophillic personality? Im amused to a degree of seperation by the pedagogic, pedantics of your noxious boy in the bubble one line preamble . To my learned understanding ,your point of view is a subtle mixture of Question Time and Bannana's in Pajamas .
