Craig Wing's horror run with injuries may spill out over the 2009 season, with revelations the Rabbitohs’ key playmaker may require groin surgery.
Wing developed the injury during pre-season training with South Sydney, and consulted a specialist on Friday to determine whether surgery will be needed.
The results of his examination are expected in the coming days, but should he need to go under the knife - it's unlikely Wing will return to the training paddock until early February.
"There is an issue there," Rabbitohs coach Jason Taylor told News Ltd.
"Craig may need to have something done.
"We don't know just yet whether he needs an operation.
"If he does, then we want to get him in straight away but there's also the chance he doesn't."
Wing has joined his teammates at a training camp in Coffs Harbour but will return immediately should he require surgery.
