Duel of the Jules! Gillard and Bishop get catty

The claws were out in Question Time today, with Julie Bishop's actions speaking louder than words, after taunts from Julia Gillard got catty.

In a heated address about the Labor party's promise to provide computers to school students, the Deputy Prime Minister decided to target Ms Bishop.

"We will deliver an effective one to one ratio for those students," Ms Gillard said.

"I know ratio's probably a confusing concept for the Shadow Treasurer, she might get someone to explain it to her."

A cat clawing gesture from Ms Bishop was a clear indication that she was less than impressed.

This wasn't the only display of animal behaviour disrupting Question Time today – earlier a man jumped from the public gallery onto the floor.

The uproar started when a male member of the public stood up in his place and started yelling "There is no humanity here".

He was lead out of the gallery by guards, just seconds before another man in a similar t-shirt leapt to the floor of the Chamber.

He was immediately surrounded by security as he landed, and was escorted out before getting close to any politicians.

A third man and a woman sitting in the gallery were also asked to leave - wearing t-shirts with the words "Social Justice Network" on the back.

Is that how Gillard found out about ratio? Someone explained it to her? I hope they knew what they were talking about .. otherwise those mates of Gillards might be getting the ten percent and the rest going to battelrs, not the other way around, as the ALP tend to do it.

Oh, Wacko Ball, your comments are becoming pointless and nonsensical by the minute with your incessant rhetoric. Let's not forget that your dearly beloved Communist Liberals are well renowned for fudging economing figures (ie. Smirk) and plagiarising by taking credit where it's not due from previous successful federal Labor governments (ie. Johnny Coward) Thank goodness we have someone with intestinal fortitude like Julia kicking the serial plagiarist Bishop where it really hurts - her ego!

Ball Brain doesn't seem to understand the grasp on political reality when it comes to good vs evil, demonstrated in his delusional, misguided empty-headed rant and I can't wait for Julia Gillard to get a piece of him too - as she should. As for Julia, this woman's got class, integrity and boldness to rightfuly ward off those who try to ruin democracy in this country; especially Naughty Girl Copycat Bishop, whose political credibility is on par with a caraway seed with self-absorbed grandiosity.

Both in Parliament and here a perfect example of why women will never break through any glass ceiling. The female bitchy attitude will always defeat them. They don't need men to criticise them, just let them tear each other apart. Is it any wonder no one would trust any of them with leadership. Pathetic !!

Gillard is just a left wing loudmouth-All the smart talk in the World will not stop Labor from taking the Country down the road to economic ruin. Gillard needs to learn a simple history lesson-Labor and a good economy are not compatible.

It seems that the catiness is now plaguing our special comments makers. Stop being so childish and focus on the main issues- namely the governments failure on education

Right. Julia attacks Julie while promising to "deliver a ratio". I think the students would rather have computers.

How professional....I am so sick of politicians being nasty and spiteful! As for Gillard being snide to Bishop about ratio's...i'd suggest she look a little closer to home if she wants to critize someone on their financial knowledge. Bishop may not be the most polished person in the world, but she is qualified to do the job, unlike Wayne Swan.

Qualified to do the job??? The dragqueen? The only thing she knows about the economy she has plagiarised from someone else! She has as much credibility as a mime artist :-)

Have you noticed how Fawcett (and borther Freestone) always criticises the opposition persons (looks etc.), but never applies the same standard to her own (devoid of beauty) team? Strange, I always thought you vote for the policies of the party, NOT the individual "hairstyles?"

Re the plagiarism - yes a terrible mistake, but it does happen. As for qualifications - you can't argue against objective facts, and the fact is that there is no comparison between Bishop and Swan, Bishops experience and qualifications are far superior to Swan when it comes to the management of money!

Traci Fawcett-Because ugliness is in the eyes of the beholder you fail to see it in Julia Gillard. She is a show off-any one can be clever when given free reign by the partisan speaker. Opposition members have been sin binned for raising points of order. She has failed to give a direct answer to a single question that has been put to her.

"Re the plagiarism - yes a terrible mistake, but it does happen." Concerned Liberal. Thats funny, my mate said that & he got kicked out of university. He's now busy building a career as a casual packer at one of Australias finest factories! So, Julie Bishop, not others, can get away with it eh?Why?

Posted by: Jill Stoker, Sydney

Tuesday, 02 December 2008

Your mate would have gone to an academic panel before being kicked out of university for academic misconduct & the lecturer would have HAD to prove that your mate INTENDED to STEAL the work of someone elses & pass it off as is own. Only intential plagiarism is classed as academic misconduct. I suspect that he didn't tell you that bit. As for Bishop - there has been no evidence AT ALL that it was intentional - if it was then she should be sacked

Very edifying Bolts to see Bishop motioning like a cat.Good stuff ! Thats the way you want to see the potential deputy PM react to a few taunts. What does Bishop think its like in the kitchen.Doubt she has ever been in one .Too many maids at home.

Didn't this Liberal admit that she chased her sister with an axe when younger? Now she's an old battle-axe but still no more refined. Maybe she likes axes because they're symbolic of her IR WorkChoices extremism - y'know, cutting the wages and conditions of the young and industrially weak.

a simple history lesson could take you back to the fraser years when howard was treasurer. a 10 billion federal debt, 22%interest rates, 10.5% unemployment . liberals and reality dont seem to be compatible.

Posted by: david green, wiley pk

Tuesday, 02 December 2008

Where do you get your facts from? Under Fraser/Howard, interest rates ranged from a low of 9.13 to a high of 13.5, that is a long way off your alleged 22%. As for unemployment, I can only go back as far as nov 93 online (when it was 11% under Keating) so i can't confirm that number. However, i have found credible sources that suggest unemployment did hit double digits under Fraser so 10.5% seems reasonable. But your rates are completlely wrong.

CL:The key difference between the two though was that Howard was Treasurer under the protection of a regulated finance industry with caps on home loan interest rates. These caps were removed by the Hawke/Keating government in their bold reforms in deregulating our Banking industry - reforms which have been critical to Australia’s modern financial strength after initial birthing and growth pains. Given this massive reform, what then is a proper tool for comparison? The answer lies in that the key measure of interest rates is the 90 day bill rate. In 1982 the 90 day bill rate reached: 22% vs 18.5% in 1989. If you had residentially secured lending other than capped home loans you were paying 22% in 1982 and in fact, as mentioned, I have clients who did pay those rates then and slightly higher meaning they were at the 90 day bill rate and above. There can be little doubt that had Howard not benefited from regulation uncapped home loan rates would have been at that 22% and higher level.

CL: When Howard became treasurer, the budget deficit was $3.2 billion, inflation 8 per cent, the unemployment rate 6.3 per cent and the growth rate 1.6 per cent. When he surrendered the Treasury keys to Paul Keating in March 1983, the budget deficit was $4.3 billion, inflation was 11 per cent, unemployment was 10.2 per cent and growth was a negative 0.4 per cent. Not a beautiful set of numbers.

Tuesday, 02 December 2008

David Green is quite correct CL.Housing loan interest rates were capped at 13.5% by Howard as treasurer. But cash rates did reach over 20% .Not 100% sure about 22% but certainly around that mark.

Try 17% under keating, some small business higher. The remarks of some here with regard to appearance, speak volumes to what they deem important when voting. Some women make me ashamed when they try tearing other women down using their appearance as a weapon against them. Australia will wait a long time for a female PM, women are their own worst enemies. Who would want the catty bitchiness of females running our country.

i think we can all agree howard was a disaster. it was his attempts at keeping the federal debt ''a secret'' until after the election ,which underlined his complete dishonesty with the australian people.to further take credit along with costello for an economic boom that was completely set up by labours economic reforms, is another side to his deviousness.although having said that, the philosophy of economic rationalism which 'both' parties adhere to is the reason for the poor state of things

concerned liberal. theres obviously fluctuations during a political term the 22% in interest rates seems to be consistent with my sources.along with 11%inflation. its shocking regardless of variations
