A suicide attack against police forces Monday killed 10 people including two policemen and wounded another 27 in southern Afghanistan, police said.
A suicide attacker detonated explosives strapped to his body as he walked to a police vehicle in the crowded main market of Musa Qala district in Helmand province, provincial police chief Assadullah Shairzad told AFP.
"Ten people including two policemen were killed and another 27 including two policemen were wounded in the suicide attack today," he said.
The blast took place in the local market, which is usually packed with shoppers, killing eight civilians and leaving 25 wounded.
Musa Qala district has been a centre of insurgency and has fallen into the hands of Taliban militants several times over the past few years.
Several districts are still controlled by the insurgent group in Helmand province, despite the presence of thousands of British troops under NATO mandate.
No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, but suicide attacks are claimed by Taliban militants who were forced from power in late 2001 by the US-led invasion of Afghanistan.
