The Dalai Lama 'loves' Bush, unsupportive of policies

2/12/2008 9:48:00 AM.  | Jesse Perez

The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, has said he “loved” outgoing US president George W. Bush, but described his lack of support for some of his polices.

"To be honest, some of his policies have been a disaster, but as a person, I love him, he is open, very truthful," the Dalai Lama said in a press conference in Prague.

"At the first meeting, we were very close" from the start, he added.

Bush caused controversy in October 2007 when he took the spiritual leader into the White House, angering the Chinese Government.

During the conference, the 73-year-old Buddhist leader called for firmness and a critical spirit when dealing with China – using an analogy that friends should be able to cope with criticism.

However, The Dalai Lama has said recently he has “given up” on his attempts to persuade China to grant further autonomy to his native country, Tibet.

I really respect Bush, and if the Dalai respected those whom he loved he would too. The truth is Bush policies have been for the world's best, not for immediate popularity. The Dalai has been wrong in taking leftist values for a long time, and needs to admit it if he is to grow.

You really need to stop taking those hallucinogenic drugs. Bush is a mental midget, a war criminal, a creator of false information and his efforts against terrorism have magnified the problem 10 fold. Seriously you are either an absolute idiot or can't see the forrest for the trees.

its nice to see at least there is someone in the world who can see the difference between a person and their political persuasions. And no - i am not a Bush fan - I despise his politics and on a personal level - I don't know the man so who I am to sit and judge him...he made be very nice, but I wouldn't know.
